My clients say:- I have found the coaching sessions, helpful and very thought provoking. They have given me ideas and spurred positive actions. I found the open questioning, and surprisingly the role play - challenging (and slightly uncomfortable), but it was very rewarding. Working through scenarios was good for me. The benefits have been more awareness of both myself and others. Focusing on constructive thoughts/actions, achievable results, strategies that I can use in the situations that I face! Thought provocation and focusing on the areas I have chosen. The outcomes which I have achieved were increased self confidence, a feeling of empowerment in some aspects of my management role. Learning new strategies for allowing me to be a more effective manager, including how I relate to other staff (confidence and assertiveness), overcoming personally challenging situations (difficult conversations), and how to delegate without feeling guilty. I really feel that I benefited from our coaching sessions, Mary - at times it was very difficult to have to look closely at my life and to work out what I wanted to achieve. The main thing I take away from coaching is the way in which I learned to deal with people. It has been hard over the last few months passing on my knowledge. However I remembered what we talked about in a previous coaching session, about being able to smile when I was on the phone and it help enormously, when things got too much. The other thing you made me aware of was my strengths and; how to use them to my advantage i.e. being organised; by preparing for meetings before hand: I even write lists at home, of things I want to do and I feel as though I have achieved something even if it is just the ironing. When I was talking about looking for a new job I was telling you of all the things that I didn't want and you just asked me what I did want to do. This completely changed the way I was going about it so when I went for my second: interview with ABC Company I knew it was the job I wanted. It ticked all these boxes we brainstormed - so hopefully it will work out for me. All in all life has taken a turn for the better! CF - (Property Manager), during Career Change
What I've got out of coaching with Mary - the key development for me has been learning how to look at things from a different perspective i.e. thinking about how the 3rd person would react to my recommendations and learning to take time out to think through various options available. I've covered many things but facilitation, how to do this i.e. looking out for the people not contributing etc has been invaluable. Difference it's made to me - Now when faced with a situation I much more naturally think about what I say, am able to handle the other person's reactions by calming and controlling the situation more and most of all have learnt to be myself and not be afraid to say when I don't know the answer . Things I've noticed about myself - I now don't shy away from confrontations or speaking to people who in my perception can be difficult. Mary taught me to think about wearing a comfortable cloak and think of the person as if you were in more of an informal setting and as a result my body language has been much more relaxed and my experiences of communicating with these personalities has been much improved as I've been able to get out of the conversations what I've wanted.
